Ingrid Lazaro: A Successful Salon Entrepreneur

2/9/2012

_ Ingrid, as dearly known by his family, colleagues and clients, started his humble beginnings on the grounds of pure determination and sincere perseverance to alleviate his and his family’s mediocre status.  Born in a large family of twelve, he is the eighth among his not-so-privileged siblings.

Uninterrupted  by  the  fact, he  tracked  his  elementary and   secondary   education with honors, knowing fully well that it  is  his  ultimate way   to  achieve  whatever success  that  awaits him in                                                                                                                          the   future.    Driven   with much enthusiasm,  he  took up his Bachelor in  Science and  Commerce  Major   in Accountancy at the Baliuag University.    Heaved   with intelligence yet deprived of resources, he was forced to drop his course when he was in 3rd year.  Being out of college did not hamper him to pursue life though his dreams of finishing school seemed totally unreachable.

Young as nineteen, Ingrid did not mind working as a beautician at Professional Touch Salon. His stewardship yielded a reward that he, later on, became the Branch Manager.

His trustworthiness in eighteen  straight years of hard work rendered him all the experience he could ever gain, aside from the fact that his dedication, talent, passion and skills in hair and make-up emerged so naturally from him.  As a proof, he has won two Hair and Make-up competitions:

Hair Asia 2000 held at World Trade Center and Marikina Fashion World 2003.  Over the years, he has accumulated a vast number of clientele that specifically sought for professional service he himself personally performs.

Picture
_ The busy avenue of Bayan-bayanan in Marikina won’t be even busier without the hallmark of Ingrid Salon.  Owned by no less than Ingrid Lazaro, a native of Bustos, Bulacan, who marked his niche on a land not of his own, yet, regarded much by all Marikeños due to his remarkable talent, passion and skills in hair and make-up.
In 2006, geared with nothing but talent and courage, he embraced  the call   of   putting  up  his  own Ingrid Salon;  hopeful  that no  matter how inadequate his entrepreneurial skills is, he can attain    something if  he does with all his heart and soul.
Motivated  with love for his family, this is his own  means  of  increasing  his  income to support them more financially and aid for his nieces and nephews’ education. Started with an amount of one hundred thousand pesos only (P100,000.00) and hired ten (10) personnel, Ingrid Salon expanded and currently  employs 27 personnel  who man both the salon and Ingrid Spa.

Ingrid enjoys the fruits of his hard work; now he has two-story house and lot, two sedan cars    and a 4x4 vehicle, plus savings in the bank. Despite these countless blessings, he never forgets to be generous and giving.

He even bestows  financial  support  to a foundation for Catholic Community and continuously assists his family whom he has drawn a lot of inspiration from.

Indeed, he will never stop. Three to five years from now, aside from having additional branches, he aims to put up his own training school for hair dressing and cosmetology.  This will facilitate future employment and might be a starting point for those who, similar to him, have nothing to start with.

Keep Your Gums Healthy

Picture
_ In order to keep your gums healthy you need to remove the daily build-up of plaque from all the surfaces of your teeth by:
  • Brushing your teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time. Ask your dentist which type of tooth brush is best for you, as many of us use brushes that are too hard or too large.
  • Floss your teeth, as a toothbrush doesn't always reach into the gaps in between the teeth or below the gum line.
  • Do not brush your teeth too hard as this can damage your gums, ask your dentist or hygienist to show you the correct technique
  • Use fluoride toothpaste.
_ Healthy gums are:
  • Pink in color
  • No areas of redness or inflammation
  • No bleeding when brushing or flossing
  • No tenderness or discomfort
If the daily build up of plaque is not removed this can lead to the first stages of gum disease ‘Gingivitis’

Invisalign: A Better Looking Alternative to Braces

2/9/2012

_ Invisalign is the modern way to get the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted — without braces. Schedule a consultation with our team so we can determine if Invisalign is right for you.

What is it? Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven to be highly effective and accurate, especially for adults.

Why would I want it? Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. No metal and wires usually means you spend less time in our practice getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
Picture
_  How does it work? You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position we have prescribed. You'll visit us about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Bariatric Surgery: A Wonderful Life-Saving Tool

_What is Obesity? Obesity results from the excessive accumulation of fat that exceeds the body's skeletal and physical standards. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an increase in 20 percent or more above your ideal body weight is the point at which excess weight becomes a health risk. Today 97 million Americans, more than one-third of the adult population, are overweight or obese. An estimated 5 to 10 million of those are considered morbidly obese. For people who are fed up of seeing their weight off the scales, there’s another way to lose the extra pounds, not just temporarily but permanently.

Now, there is HOPE for OBESITY! Bariatric surgery
is a wonderful lifesaving tool!

Obesity-related health conditions are health conditions that,
whether alone or in combination, can significantly reduce your
life expectancy and there are more than 30 diseases related on it.

The cost of Bariatric Surgery in the
Philippines is only 30% of the total
cost compared in Western  Countries

After
Bariatric Surgery is derived from the greek word “baros” meaning pressure and “iatros” which refers to science and knowledge. When you are obese you have so much pressure within your body, physically, mentally & emotionally.

According to Dr. Hildegrades C. Dineros, a pioneer and leader in the field of Metabolic and Bariatirc Surgery in the Philippines and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and Philippines College of Surgeons (PCS), currently the President of the Philippines Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, “obesity is when you take in more than what you should eat.  It is not when, why and how you take in food, it is still at the end of the day, the between intake and expenditure of calories”.

We must be motivated by nutrition, for beyond that, it is over eating for pleasure.  It is okay once is a while to over eat but when it becomes habitual, that you tend to take in more than you should, then you have the tendency to become obese”.  He added that habitual over eating is a sign of food addiction.

The treatment of obesity is tailored according to the patient’s BMI category, health conditions, and patient’s preferences. His Obesity Center offers a wide range of treatment options including non-surgical management obesity.

The foundation of treatment is compliance to lifestyle modifications including a nutritional intervention and progressive physical activity.

Unfortunately, diet and exercise may not  be adequate to attain the desired weight loss especially in the morbidly obese patients. Thus, bariatric surgery is the best and the most durable treatment option for these set of patients including  with diabetes.

Bariatric Surgery is an operation designed to help you lose weight.  It is  anchored on two basic principles. One is RESTRICTIVE; limiting the amount of food that is ingested, and the other is MALABSORPTIVE, decreasing the chance for ingested food to get into the body.  Some procedures utilize both mechanisms.  Depending on the compliance of a patient 50-100% of the excess weight maybe lost after the surgery.  A patient usually looses one thrird of his/her obese weight in a year.

_The most popular procedure is the Gastric Bypass which limits food in take and has some malabsorption.  Gastric Banding is increasingly performed worldwide, while Sleeve Resection of the stomach is becoming known. Both are purely restrictive procedures.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with Doudenal Switch is more malabsorptive but also restrictive. These procedures are usually done using LAPAROSCOPIC (minimal acess) techniques without the need for long abdominal incisions.  This permits the patient to go home after only a brief stay in the hospital.

In science, they could only see the possible causes, it can only determine how it happens and not why it happens. In science, it is more on evidenced based, physical and tangible, but for Dr. Dineros, if there’s nothing on it, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Obesity-related health conditions are health conditions that, whether alone or in combination, can significantly reduce your life expectancy and there are more than 30 diseases related on it.  These may involve practically any organ and system of the body, from head to toe.

A severely obese person would probably   have heart disease,  hypertension, Type 2    diabetes, osteoarthritis especially of weight-bearing joints, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, gastroesophageal reflux,  heartburn,  urinary stress incontinence, gallstones, high cholesterol and triglycerides  and some form of depression  and  diminished person’s self-esteem.

The   obese   individual   would have     even a higher risk for cancer, strokes, kidney damage, liver problems and accidents. Just being obese may cause infertility including menstrual irregularities for women.

Cost Effectiveness!
With all the obesity-related health conditions mentioned, there is really a cost effectiveness in undergoing bariatric and metabolic surgery.  Imagine with all those burden obesity-related health conditions, the expenses on medications and treatments of obesity-related health conditions would even cost you more than  ten times compared to having a bariatric surgery and metabolic surgery.

You do not only improve the quality of your life but you get to enjoy the additional years of life of what God has given you.

Replace Your Missing Tooth with Dental Implants

2/9/2012

Picture
_ Dental Implants are the latest innovation to replace a missing tooth or a number of teeth. An implant consists of an artificial titanium rod which is placed directly into the jaw bone and acts as a replacement for the root portion of the natural tooth. The implant is made using pure titanium which allows new bone cells to grow around it: the implant then integrates with the newly formed bone which firmly locks it into place. This process is called ‘Osseointegration’.

A Dental Implant can be used to replace:
  • One tooth ---One implant will be placed, a crown will then be fixed on top of the implant.
  • Several teeth ---Either several implants and crowns will be placed or a dental bridge will be fitted onto the implants.
  • All the teeth --- A number of implants are placed, then either a fixed bridge will be fitted onto the implants or the implants will be used to firmly hold a removable denture.
